In this festive edition, we focus on our onion rings. And with good reason! In fact, Le Duc was the first company to bring the onion ring, so popular in America, over to Europe. By now, this much-loved snack has become a popular staple on menus. Whether your guests are celebrating a special occasion or eating out just because, the onion ring is a perfect snack to present on your snack board!
A small morsel of history
Onion rings may enjoy massive popularity in the US, but they do not, in fact originate from this country. Quite a few countries claim they were the ones to invent this snack. The source that goes farthest back in time and mentions this snack is a British cookbook from 1802, titled "The Art of Cookery Made Easy and Refined". In it, John Mollard, the author, describes a recipe that is said to be the oldest onion ring recipe, titled, "fried onions with Parmezan [sic] cheese. The current opinion is, then, that this yummy snack originated in Britain. Wherever it may hail from, this little morsel of history tastes delicious!
